About the casebook

A Bangladeshi interpretation of ESG, not a translation.

Published by ESG Institute Bangladesh in collaboration with North South University School of Business and Economics, for ESG Bootcamp Bangladesh 2025, the first and largest corporate bootcamp on sustainability and ESG held in the country.

✓

Written in the language of factory floors

Credit committees, classrooms and supply chains, not borrowed acronyms.

✓

Cases with numbers

Tonnes of CO₂, megawatts, loan books and percentages, so you can see what changed.

✓

Built for teaching and for boardrooms

Each case ends with a question to take back to your own industry.

"Sustainability is not framed as sacrifice. It is framed as a strategy. Governance is not paperwork. It is trust. And social responsibility is not charity, it is resilience."

Sadia Samira, Chairman, ESG Institute Bangladesh · Editorial
Key insights

Six numbers that frame the conversation.

Drawn from the keynotes and expert articles in the casebook. Figures are as cited in the book.

Green finance share4.0% → 15.2%

Bangladesh Bank data cited in the book: green financing rose from 4.0% (2020) to 15.2% (Sept 2024), while sustainable finance went from 8.0% (2021) to 39.2%.

Reports, Bangladesh vs India49 vs 498

In 2020 only 49 Bangladeshi companies published sustainability reports and just 11 aligned with GRI, against 498 reports in India.

Full climate disclosure2027

Bangladesh Bank's sustainability and climate-related disclosure guidelines began phased implementation in 2024, with full compliance targeted by 2027.

Adaptation needUSD 230 bn

The government estimates about USD 230 billion for nearly 100,000 adaptation projects, roughly USD 8.5 billion a year, with around 20% expected from private finance.

Climate disaster risk9th

Bangladesh ranked 9th in the World Risk Report 2024, and lost an average 0.41% of GDP a year to climate events between 2000 and 2019.

LDC graduation2026

Graduation phases out preferential trade benefits and concessional financing, so credible ESG performance becomes a market-access question.

The takeaway across the cases: energy, finance and governance are where Bangladeshi companies are moving first, and the ones that measure early are pulling ahead.
