Microsoft and EDP Partners for 2-GW Solar Energy in Singapore

EDP Renewables (EDPR) and Microsoft are taking significant strides towards clean energy in Singapore.

Major Solar Initiative: Microsoft commits to purchasing all renewable energy from EDP’s SolarNova 8 project, the largest solar effort in Singapore.

Long-term Collaboration: The 20-year agreement reinforces a partnership for clean energy, supporting Microsoft’s renewable energy goals.

Support for Sustainability: This project aids Singapore’s target of achieving 2GW peak solar energy by 2030.

EDP Renewables (EDPR) and Microsoft are making significant strides towards clean energy in Singapore. Under a new 20-year agreement, Microsoft will purchase 100% of the renewable energy exported from EDPR’s SolarNova 8 project. This initiative, part of Singapore’s SolarNova program, aims to install up to 200MWp of solar capacity across more than 1,000 public housing buildings and over 100 government-owned structures.

Miguel Stilwell d’Andrade, CEO of EDP and EDPR, emphasized the importance of this collaboration, stating, “We are strengthening EDP’s global collaboration with Microsoft through this project and together we are taking a step towards achieving Singapore’s sustainability goals of at least 2GW peak of solar energy by 2030. Contracting with Microsoft is a catalyst for accelerating the energy transition and to continue investing in the region.“

This agreement marks the second collaboration between EDPR and Microsoft in Singapore, continuing a partnership that began in 2018. The long-term contract not only supports the development of new solar projects but also aligns with Microsoft’s broader aim of achieving 100% renewable energy across its operations.

Adrian Anderson, General Manager for Renewables and Carbon Free Energy at Microsoft, praised the ongoing partnership, saying, “Microsoft appreciates the global relationship that we’ve built with EDPR, enabling our companies to drive grid decarbonization efforts in Singapore, the US, and Europe. Building our renewable energy portfolio with EDPR ensures that we can continue to secure renewable energy supply to meet our ambitious renewable energy and decarbonization goals.”

By joining forces, EDP and Microsoft are contributing significantly to Singapore’s renewable energy landscape and showcasing a model for sustainable collaboration.

15% of the Sundarbans Can’t Recover from Climate Stress, but Bangladesh Ignores the Emergency

A peer-reviewed study published in Communications Earth & Environment analysed 25 years of satellite data and found that 10–15% of the Sundarbans 610 to 990 square kilometres has lost its ability to recover from environmental stress. Cyclones, saline intrusion, and human pressure are driving what scientists call 'critical slowing down.' The forest that protects 6 million people, sequesters millions of tonnes of carbon, and sustains Bangladesh's coastal economy is weakening and the governance response has not matched the scientific urgency

Bangladesh Exported $3.14 Billion in Garments Last Month. Now Read What That Number Is Hiding.

Bangladesh RMG exports: $3.14 billion in April 2026 — up 31.21% year-on-year. Knitwear: +30.02%. Woven: +32.65%. Technically accurate. Also deeply misleading. April 2025 was one of the worst export months in recent history: Eid shutdown, India's transshipment ban, and US tariff shock all hit simultaneously. The 31% is measured against a collapsed floor. This is a live example of exactly what ISSB disclosure standards exist to prevent: data without context.

China Generates Geothermal Power in Jiangsu for the First Time: Bangladesh Should Pay Attention

In Rudong County, Jiangsu Province, China drilled a well to 3,501 metres, struck a 108°C geothermal resource, and produced 200 kilowatts of electricity, the first geothermal power ever generated in Jiangsu. Small pilot. Enormous signal. Bangladesh sits on the same eastern coastal geological belt. Sitakund has documented hot springs. And Bangladesh is spending Tk 390 million a month on LNG subsidies while a baseload clean energy resource may be sitting under its own soil. Nobody is looking.
